This event was an opportunity for access and outreach practitioners across all CET member institutions, along with community practitioners and youth leaders, to connect, network, share learnings and explore ways to increase collaboration: institutionally, with community and with students. The day was designed with lots of opportunities to meaningfully connect with a diverse group of practitioners, all working on the common, collective mission of enhancing access to post secondary education. We started off with a dynamic panel session on Resilience, and then 2 break out sessions on Effective Outreach and building community partnerships.
The CET, in partnership with the Toronto District School Board (TDSB), hosted the 'Alternative Choices Marketplace' with over 400 attendees. This event brought together CET and TDSB access and outreach programs all in one place, in order to make it easier for students to understand their options. Individualized pathways planning for students was available through the TDSB's Central Guidance department and Smart Saver program representatives shared information on post secondary funding and saving strategies.
In May 2012, the CET hosted 3 separate consultation sessions with staff and former participants of member institution's access and outreach programs. These sessions were designed as networking events, bringing together practitioners from different institutions to share their ideas and experiences.
In October of 2011, the CET hosted the event 'Bridging the Gap: Post Secondary is Possible' with the United Way Community of Practice on Youth Educational Attainment Partnerships. Access and outreach program staff and other educational practitioners had the opportunity to hear from youth who shared their own pathways to the programs they participated in, as well as challenges they faced and recommendations on how to best support other youth. Practitioners also connected with post secondary outreach and access initiatives at the various colleges and universities in Toronto in an expo where each CET Member institution was present with a booth displaying their access and outreach programs.
